With the helical cut gears in the 205, a Duramax with a tune only has the power to split the case right in half. A divorced kit through Profab goes for $1500, and I'm not sure if that includes straight cut gears to get rid of the thrust that the helical gears make. John.4wd full time is an NP203, part time is an NP205. those were the only transfer cases available from the factory in 1979. Earlier Ford used a single speed part time case that was called the Dana 20, and a part time case with a shift pattern like the NP205 called the Dana 24.

Even though they're clockable, the 203, and 205 divorced cases were nixed when I found out they have a 'high' rear output. The driveline on this rig tucks up inside like a hummer, and the case HAS to hang low for the front shaft to clear the body tub. the 7.5" drop on a 720 case is marginal for this, so I'm still looking for other options. Yup, just find a Dodge or IH divorced NP205. I see them posted for sale as Chevy t-cases quite often. I built a 1 ton S-10 years ago, took off the aluminum t-case, swapped a 2wd output on the 700R4 and put in a divorced Dodge 205, Dodge Dana 60 front and GM14 bolt rear. I kept the stock s-10 floor mounted t-case shifter too.
The F-250 switched from a divorced transfer case to a married (attached) transfer case in 1977. But this 1977 still has the divorced transfer case found in the "Highboy" models.
